Revisiting Rhubarb

It is interesting to get reactions to my post about rhubarb and summer projects. As a New Englander, rhubarb has always been a spring and summer treat. As mentioned, strawberry rhubarb pie is so yummy! It is definitely, for me, comfort food. And right now, at year end, I am in need of some comfort. (I'm also really glad I'm not a southern gal, because the collard greens are way out of my taste preferences!)

What is it that makes us revisit childhood favorites?

  1. Like you said, childhood is comforting, or at least for most of us it is. There are elements of it, food and other, that remind us of being cared for and surrounded by love and family. These are generally the foods and traditions that we carry on, with our own families (or at least that part I am assuming, I am newly married, and we have not started our own family yet).

  2. Things relating to our childhood make us feel good because there is a sense of innocence and freedom associating with them. When I was child, I could remember being free of any thought and worries. Now, I am constantly burdened my work and other things I need to get accomplished. Back then, I did not have to worry. Perhaps this is why things from our childhood make us feel so good.
